Welcome to Sergio Paisley

Why Sergio Paisley?

Growing up in the 1970s, I was significantly influenced by the style icons of the period. In particular, the fashion represented in the Italian westerns of the 1960s and 1970s along with the influences seen in American films such as Midnight Cowboy, Badlands, Serpico, and Shaft. These all had significant impact on my sense of fashion and design.

Wide leg jeans, leather boots and jackets, snap button shirts, and hats to wear about town with an urban-western vibe! YES, PLEASE!

I have found the throw-away fashion, lack of unique pieces, and mass produced offerings in men’s retail frustrating. These considerations along with the pragmatic difficulty of securing western wear that has an “urban” vibe, European influence, and feels fashion forward can be quite difficult for men.

Sergio Paisley undertakes an intensive search to curate collections that meet the needs of men who want sophisticated, chic styling that is masculine, unique, and a bit rebellious - pieces that can be worn to your favorite cocktail lounge, vacation spot, concert hall, or restaurant whether it be in Pittsburgh, NYC, Miami, or any other interesting place your life may take you.

Pittsburgh

Why Pittsburgh?

The remarkable number of unique neighborhoods, university and cultural assets, and diversity in all of its forms make Pittsburgh an ideal place for this store.

We believe Sergio Paisley can fill a niche in our regional market and become a go-to destination for men who seek elegance and individuality in their wardrobes, but still love a good pair of boots or leather jacket!

The particular location of our store in the distinctive Northside Mexican War Streets village with its architectural, culture, arts, and music venues give the urban communal feel and vibrancy that makes for the ideal spot for our brick and mortar store.

Dreams

Someday

Dreams • Someday •

Owning my own fashion brand and boutique retail establishment in Pittsburgh has always been a dream of mine. Combining my passion for film, design, fashion with the desire to contribute to the local economic and cultural fabric of Pittsburgh is a dream come true.  This effort brings together my passions for this City, a love of Italian and greater Mediterranean culture, and influence of 1960s and 1970s fashion, music, and film.  These are also traditions and trends that are so entwined with the cultural history of Pittsburgh and the region.   Give a look at Terry Bradshaw or Franco Harris coming out of a press conference in the 70s!  Those guys knew how to dress!

A bit about me - I spent time in the military, have degrees from IUP, Princeton Theological Seminary, Thomas Jefferson University School of Architecture and Built Environment, and Temple University, My wife (Judy) and I are both Italian and she also has Spanish heritage while I have Greek and German. We have a son in architecture school and live in Pittsburgh. Judy is from NYC and has a design background and I am a local boy from Beaver County,. We have an Ibizan Hound (Podenco Ibicenco) from Spain named Fernando. We have deep identification with Mediterranean culture and this comes through in our vision for this store along with commitment to the region and Pittsburgh.

My work experiences have influenced my desire to open a store. For instance, I have worked in Lower Manhattan for Parsons School of Design/The New School and also consulted for the School of Visual Arts (New York City), and Duquesne University. Currently, I split time between Pittsburgh and Baltimore through my work at Maryland Institute College for Art (MICA) . This has provided me significant opportunities to interact with professionals in the fine arts, design, and fashion fields.

Several years ago, I had a specialty retail business focused on supporting ADV motorcyclists (Primarily BMW and Ducati long distance off-road enthusiasts) with boots, apparel, and clothing from Spain and Italy.

All of these experiences have fed my passion and informed my vision for this store.

We are so very excited to introduce to the Pittsburgh community the many exciting designers, and brands we have curated for the store.  We hope you will come visit us once open in the Northside and explore our offerings.  We  also are just as happy if you want to come to the Northside and say hi!  While here you can chill at a park or coffee shop, eat at at one of the many cool restaurants, visit the National Aviary, take in a Pirates or Steelers game, or visit one of the many amazing museums in the area such as the Andy Warhol Museum or the Mattress Factory.  So, whatever your motivation, we hope you swing in and say hi once open and we cannot wait to meet you in the coming weeks.

In service,

~ Ray
